The objective for this assignment is to create a voting handbook that outlines what a former slave living in the South during Reconstruction (1865-1877) needed to learn about voting.The assignment asks students to answer questions similar to the following: How did a former slave become eligible to vote? What were the different political beliefs during the time period of Reconstruction? What obstacles did African-Americans face when attempting to vote? What political party gave African Americans the best hope for new opportunities?
This template is formatted so that students can fold it like a pamphlet. The template also includes detailed directions for students to complete their handbook right on the template as well as the point values that I assigned to each section.
