Reconstruction Webquest and Video Analysis with Key- this is a 12 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 34 questions based on a YouTube video (Crash Course U.S. History) and the History.com educational website.
Students will first be asked to watch the video: Crash Course U.S. History-Reconstruction. This 13 minute clip will provide a excellent introduction to the Reconstruction of the South following the Civil War. Presidential Reconstruction, Radical Reconstruction, the 14th and 15th amendments, the Republican conquest of the South, the eventual failure of Reconstruction, and the re-emergence of the Southern Democrats are all covered. Following the video, students will be directed to the History.com website where they will watch an additional short video and read an article about Reconstruction. Scalawags and Carpetbaggers, the successes/failures of Reconstruction, and the election of Rutherford B. Hayes, which essentially kills Reconstruction, are all discussed in the reading.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
