This product includes everything you need to teach finding the area of composite figures to your students. This product was designed for third graders, but would work great as a review for fourth graders as well to help find the area of rectilinear figures.

This product introduces how to break apart rectangles into two smaller rectangles using the distributive property, and how to find the area of composite figures using the distributive property.

There is an interactive mini-lesson included that students can glue into their notebooks to help them have something to reference after learning how to find the rectilinear area of figures. This interactive notebook entry is "no-nonsense" which means that students simply have to cut and glue. There is no folding to make it easier for you to teach the lesson faster and to keep students on track.

In the ten worksheets included, students slowly learn how to figure out rectilinear area. I added 10 differentiated worksheets to allow you to give students the work that is best for them!

The first three worksheets start out finding the area of regular rectangles using the distributive property. This allows students to easily transfer their knowledge to rectilinear figures in the other 7 worksheets.

There is a create-your-own amusement park activity where students have to use their knowledge of rectilinear area to build their own amusement park. There are 3 versions to allow for easy differentiation!

There is also a rectilinear area game included! In the game, students have to find the area of each rectilinear figure in an amusement park. They then have to find the sign that goes with the correct area. This is one of my class's favorite games we play all year. It's easy to play individually or with a partner!

In all, there are over 40 pages included in this resource!
