Have you tried the Red Dot Strategy with your young or struggling readers yet? I decided to give it a shot with a couple of my students who were struggling with sight words and have loved the success they've had with it. A couple of my first graders had a habit of looking at the first letter or two of a sight word and just guessing the word, based on the first letter or two of the word. Fortunately, the red dot strategy has helped minimize and put an end to that!
If you're unfamiliar with the Red Dot Strategy, brain specialist Fritz Mengert said that making a red dot in the center of the word helps students focus on the middle rather than just the beginning of the word.
Use these sight word cards as flash cards, word wall cards, or even in an intervention binder... however you see fit!
