Enhance your lessons and Teacher Observations with I Can Reflect Sheets. It’s an awesome way to have your students SELF—EVALUATE after each lesson. It also provides you with insight on which students need additional work in certain areas. These personalized tier 2 questions reflect the strategic matrix used to make sure your students are thinking within the text, about the text and beyond the text. It will also teach them how to search for and use information from the text. It will prompt them to summarize the text and synthesize the information they obtain in order to understand the lesson better. The questions also enhance the students ability to infer and to show evidence in the text to support their findings.
. Before each lesson read the reflection statement and let the students know that they will be expected to reflect on the statement after the lesson is over. After the lesson have the students read the statement for the lesson and discuss what they’ve learned. After their discussion (as a group) they should self-evaluate (individually) by checking the appropriate box which will reflect how well they understood the lesson. If they check “I got it and I can teach it” or “I got it”, then the lesson was understood with no concerns. However if they select “Sort of got it” or “I didn’t get it” then the lesson should be reviewed one on one or as a group until the student feels comfortable selecting “I got it and can teach it” or “I got it”. In the Notes section of the reflection sheet I generally document technical vocabulary words that they will encounter within the lesson. This will enhance their vocabulary.
I have found that personalizing each lesson for the students and having them read the statement before the lesson strengthens their ability to be successful.
