Liesl Shurtliff has created many true stories of classic fairy tales. Each one weaves other fairy tale characters and stories throughout it! Students love making connections to classic stories and Disney movies that they have enjoyed for years. In this story, it focuses on the main character, Red Riding Hood, and her adventures to save her Granny from certain death. Along the way, she learns many lessons about herself.
This is 188 pages of student pages for use with the novel Red by Liesl Shurtliff. Each of the 26 chapters and epilogue has at least 2 comprehension questions, many have more than that to allow for easy differentiation. At the bottom of each page are suggestions for evidence statements for students to use to start their sentences while citing the text.
There are multiple types of writing paper, including some with self reflection rubrics at the bottom. In addition, there are 19 comprehension activities that can be used with any text and any chapter. These include skills like summarizing, analyzing quotes, letter writing, and more. I have also included 6 after reading prompts for practicing extended responses and test prep poster pages. (genres, text structure, context clues, and text features)

I also included three types of mini journals to be printed double sided, flip on the short side. You can pick and choose the pages that go into the comprehension journal (plenty of questions students can answer while reading this text), vocabulary journal, and character study journal. Adapt to fit the needs of individual students.
There are so many ways to differentiate this text! I loved using it as a read aloud for my class. As a read aloud, you can still differentiate by giving individual students their own questions, depending on the skills they need to practice. It can also be used for novel studies independently or in guided reading groups.
