The learning activities in this file teach students about the important practices of reducing, reusing, and recycling. The activities consist of listening to a song (via You Tube) written by Jack Johnson and reflecting on the content in his song. Additionally, the students get access to interesting facts and data about Americans and our trash on the fact website provided. On this website, the students also discover ways THEY can reduce, reuse, and recycle. Finally, the students will create a project to demonstrate their understanding of reducing, reusing, and recycling!
Included in the document is a student-friendly direction sheet, links to the music video and informational website, response sheets, project ideas, a student checklist for the project, and a teacher scoring checklist for the project.
After completing these activities, the students are expected to be able to describe the terms reduce, reuse, and recycle, as well as give examples of each.
These activities and the project can be done individually or with partners.
