This packet includes 7 winter themed reference skill printables and a bonus parts of a book page that can be used in the classroom all year! This packet can be utilized as homework, extra practice for those struggling to understand a specific concept, independent practice, or work for early finishers. Below are a list of the worksheet titles and a description of each activity.
Parts of a Book: The students will answer questions about different parts of a book. The topics include: author, illustrator, reader, spine, table of contents, index, publisher & cover.
Dictionary Penguins: The students will identify the different content within a dictionary. Each entry word includes its pronunciation, part of speech, definition, sample sentence and plural form. The students will look at part of a dictionary that is printed on the worksheet and answer questions by using the information provided.
More Dictionary Penguins: The students will continue to practice identifying information provided by the dictionary.
Mugs of Contents: The students will look at a table of contents that is on the worksheet and answer questions about a book by coloring in the correct mug to mark their answers.
The Index: The students will look at an index and answer questions about a book by using the information provided.
Guide Words: The students will look at a pair of guide words and circle which word would be found on that page in the dictionary.
Guide Words: The students will have more practice identifying which word would be on a page in the dictionary by looking at the guide words.
Bonus: Parts of a Book: This is a worksheet that can be used all year to help the students become more familiar with the parts of a book. For this worksheet, the students will be asked to identify the author, illustrator, publisher, copyright, and title of a book. The students will also be asked to identify if the book is a chapter book, if it has an index, and what is written on the spine.
