This is an introduction activity having students plot points in paint or ink on the coordinate grid. When they fold the paper along the axis asked, they are able to see where the reflected point is created. The last part allows students to reflect on their experience so as to make their learning more concrete.
This notes page gives students both a "rule" for reflecting as well as a strategy for figuring out reflections. It is hands-on, reflective, and exploratory.
