PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a handout that I used with my 12th grade students while reading Black Boy by Richard Wright. As a class, we read excerpts not the entire novel so it was important to have constant assessments to see that the students were grasping the material. My students loved music (as most do) so I decided to incorporate music with the novel. For this activity I read aloud an excerpt from the novel, put the students into groups and then had them go to the computers and pick a song or poem they could relate it to the reading.... this was a smart classroom, so if you do not have computers you can have them do the activity solo and pick a song or poem for homework. ** The students loved this activity - they had so much fun picking their own song/ poem and comparing it. I had each group present to the class at the end for a few minutes -it was a great lesson!
