This geometry or art activity is destined to become a favorite! Words or numbers are hidden in most of the reflection flowers. However, designs can be used and reflected as well. The process of "hiding" the words (math/spring/etc.) using reflections fascinates students.
The flowers are fun to create, all designs are unique, they make wonderful decorations for the classroom, and students are practicing reflection and symmetry as they design their own project. The activity is a wonderful blending of geometry and art!
Detailed, yet easy-to-follow instructions and photographs are included in the download along with templates and photos of completed reflection flowers. (The preview does not include the instructions, since that is a large part of your purchase, but does show photos of some completed projects.)
Materials required: templates (included), pencil, black marker, scissors, crayons, colored pencils, or markers
I usually dedicate two 45 minute class periods to this activity and then make the final due date a few days later. The instruction could be completed in one class period though, especially if your class periods are longer.
