Students get tired of the typical "reflect the single point over the line," "reflect the triangle over the x-axis," and "draw the other half of the butterfly." By 5th grade, the students have probably seen the "reflection" lesson at least 3 times! This lesson is a little more advanced and involves a little more thought and just might excite your students!!! (I know my kids LOVE lots of choices and using art in math)
This packet includes:
-Step by Step instructions for how to reflect over a line and over the x- and y-axis (labeled "How to become a REFLECTION ARTIST")
-worksheet to practice basic geometric reflections over the y-axis
-worksheet to practice reflecting a basic drawing (tree) over the y-axis
-OVER 50 CARTOONS TO CREATE!!!! (students will receive half a cartoon on a graph and have to use reflection to create the other half)
-Model with the tree activity before letting them do their cartoon on their own.
-I let my students choose which cartoon they prefer and then print it for them. (students love choice)
-I encourage my students to use color and detail to make the cartoon look as amazing as possible!
Your students will love creating cartoons such as: Simba, the Hulk, Sponge Bob, Miss Piggy, Superman, Garfield, Sully, Barbie, and even Justin Bieber!
