In my classroom many of my students enter with the behavior resulting from various traumas. I have learned the hard way that most discipline strategies do not work with students who's brain development has been altered by trauma. My experiences in the classroom have led to a very intentional discipline structure. With in this structure is my reflection sheet my students complete while in the "Chill out zone" This reflection sheet was designed off of the article " Building Resiliency: Working with students exposed to Trauma" by the Sound Discipline organization. The intention of this worksheet is reconnect my students with the logic side of their brain and start to develop the ability to see cause and effect while also taking responsibility for their actions.
I have given a couple of presentations on my trauma responsive discipline in the classroom and am more than happy to answer any questions or share any more resources.
I can also translate the beginning of the worksheet from Spanish to English
