Being able to make connections between the text and their own life is an important part of reading, but sometimes we need our students to get their brains activated BEFORE they read. This resource will do exactly that. These reflective prompts in task card form will awaken students to more of the subtext in That Was Then, This Is Now without YOU needing to point it out!
Just as we encourage students to share their background knowledge before starting something new, reflecting on personal experience, beliefs, and opinions helps prime students’ minds for what they are about to read or hear. These cards can be used in a number of ways, and mixing it up now and then will help maintain student interest.
