Biography Poem of a Reformation Leader

After learning about the Protestant Reformation, students will write a biography poem about one of the following leaders: Martin Luther (Lutheranism), John Calvin (Calvinism) or King Henry VIII (Anglicanism). The product includes an introduction, detailed requirements, a template of 12 lines and a rubric.

Create a Board Game

This project is a really fun and creative way for students to show off what they learned about the Reformation. Students will create the rules and directions for the game, create the required pieces, and create a colorful and detailed board game. Debates help students improve their skills in the areas of problem solving, critical thinking, communication, teamwork and leadership. For this class activity, divide your students into six teams. Two groups will be competing against each other at a time during the classroom debate. There are a total of three debate questions so each student in your class will participate in a debate and will be an audience member for two debates. The debate questions are related to the success of the Reformation, the leaders of the Reformation and the weakening of the Catholic Church. The product includes, debate statements, strategies, structures of the debate, three planning guides, a ballot sheet for audience members and a rubric.

Help Wanted Ad: Member of the Clergy (Minister) Needed

They have recently been hired to create a Help Wanted Ad to find a highly qualified and experienced person to become part of the clergy for a Protestant religion. Students will choose one of the following Protestant religions to focus on for their Help Wanted Ad: Anglicanism, Lutheranism or Calvinism. Training Guide Booklet for the Reformation

It’s the 16th century in Europe and your students have recently been hired to create a training guide booklet for people to read in order to learn about a new Protestant branch of Christianity. Students can choose one of the following Protestant branches to focus on in their training guide: Lutheranism, Calvinism, or Anglicanism. The purpose of the training guide is to teach people of the 16th century the beliefs about various aspects of the chosen branch of Christianity so they can be knowledgeable and informed. The product includes requirements for the cover page, pages of content and appendix and a rubric.

Talk Show: The Reformation

This project is a favorite among students! Your students will work in groups of four to plan and present the talk show. The student talk show will include the host and three guests. One student will represent the host and the three remaining students should each choose to represent one of the following people: Pope Paul III (Catholicism), Martin Luther (Lutheranism), John Calvin (Calvinism), or King Henry VIII (Anglicanism). Your students will improve upon skills such as public speaking, collaboration, writing and research. The product includes an introduction, a detailed explanation of the structure of the talk show, a rubric and a list of 10 sample host questions, along with a planning guide and editing checklist.

Design a Book Jacket for a Leader's Biography

One of the best ways to learn about historical figures is by reading biographies. Your students are going to design the book jacket of a chosen Reformation leader's biography. In doing so, they'll show off what they learned about his viewpoint and belief about the Reformation. A book jacket includes the front cover, spine and back cover of the book. This is a project that gives your students the opportunity to be creative, but their writing must be based on historical evidence. Your students will choose to create a movie trailer, scrapbook, farewell speech or illustrated epic poem in order to show off what they learned about a chosen Reformation leader. Each project choice comes with an introduction and a description of requirements. My students absolutely loved completing this project since they had choice and room for creativity. I loved assigning this project since they incorporated historical evidence and practiced their critical thinking skills. The product includes an explanation, requirements and four rubrics.

Newspaper Project: The Reformation

This project gives students the opportunity to delve deep into many aspects of the Reformation. As journalists, the task of your students is to capture the major issues and events of the Reformation. While there is a lot of room for creativity and an opportunity for originality, students will base their information on historical evidence. The product comes with a detailed explanation of each component required in the newspaper and a detailed rubric. Students will include the following components in their newspaper: title, two news stories, letter to the editor, interview, advertisement, advice column and obituary. The product also contains 12 newspaper templates.
