Description

With this fun and engaging activity, students will travel around to 5 different stations to view examples of refraction and bending light. The stations are easy to set up, and the slides provide specific directions on how to set up the stations and what materials are needed. The slides also have the directions you can print out for each station, as well as the questions from the worksheet and answers animated to appear on a click so you can go through these with the class. On the back of the worksheet, there is a "bending Light" worksheet where students can practice categorizing examples of reflection, refraction, and transmission. This activity takes an entire class period, and the back of the worksheet can act as a homework assignment if time does not allow!

Materials needed:

  • 5 plastic transparent tubs
  • water
  • straws
  • pennies
  • food coloring
  • glass mug

Vocabulary:

  • refraction
  • reflection
  • transmission

Great labs! Easy set up with materials that almost everyone has in their kitchen, so I didn't have to purchase anything. So many lightbulbs went off for my students when they got to see refraction in action. Great lesson!!
