Refreshing Idioms Task Cards
Download the preview for some sample cards to try out.
This activity includes a back cover page, 48 sets of idioms, and a blank page for adding other idioms. (Note: I have included 2 back cover pages as the page doesn’t line up on some printers. Please make a test page before printing out the pages to make sure you get the correct one for your printer.)
These cards come in groups of three. The lemon is the idiom, the pitcher is the meaning, and the glass is an example of the idiom in a sentence.
The cards can be mixed up and used like memory, or they can be distributed to students and match up can be played.
Mix the cards up and turn the cards upside down on the floor or a table. Work with a partner to try and find the 3 cards that go together.
Mix up the cards and hand out one lemon, one pitcher, and one glass to each student. (If there are enough cards, each student can have 2 of each set.) One student reads out an idiom. Whoever has the meaning and the sentence hands them in. The person who had the sentence reads the next idiom.
Continue until all sets are matched or time is up.
