I have created chapter-by-chapter reading comprehension questions for the novel "Refugee" by Alan Gratz. The questions you will receive require students to answer "right there" questions, make inferences, text-dependent questions, and use evidence from the text to support their thinking. I have not included an answer key because there are many "correct" answers to the different questions. These questions are perfect for a read aloud, independent study, book clubs, exit slips, guided reading groups, and formative/summative assessments. This novel would work really well with Common Core State Standard RL7.7. At the end of the novel, there is an author's note where Alan Gratz details what information he kept the same, and the information he altered for his historical fiction novel. Graphic organizers are provided so students can compare/contrast the historical fiction to historical events. Also, there are four after reading questions that would be a great summative assessment. The questions asks to students to study the similarities and differences between the characters and also look into the theme of the novel.
