Product Description
Four Regions of the United States Introduction mini-unit with mini-lapbook or interactive notebook pieces, informational text, study guide, and unit test.

Four Regions of the United States Introduction mini-unit includes a 4-page informational text. This complex text will provide your students with information about the reason geographers divide the United States into regions, how geographers create the four regions, the characteristics of regions, and a very brief overview of the four regions. Students will be introduced to the concepts of physical features, human features, climate, natural resources, and culture. This unit is meant to be an introduction to a more in-depth study of each of the four regions with my Four Regions of the United States Complete Units Bundle

This Regions of the United States Introduction mini-unit packet includes a 4-page informational text, a student study guide, and a 20 question test on the concepts presented in the text. It also includes seven foldable pieces that students can either use to create a mini-lapbook or use in an interactive notebook. I call it a "mini-lapbook" because it fits on one regular size sheet of construction paper instead of the typical file folder. The lapbook and notebook pieces are great to use as a formative assessment as you progress through the unit.

This unit has the United States divided into four regions. I have a similar product using the five regions also.

Because the United States can be divided into regions in many ways, please check to see if this version matches your standards. My materials marked “Four Regions” have the states divided this way:

South: Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, West Virginia
Northeast: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont
Midwest: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin
West: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming

If this version doesn’t match what you need, check my other listings for materials marked “Five Regions.”

The Regions of the United States Introduction mini-unit informational text is perfect for meeting your Common Core Reading Standards!! I wrote this unit because I couldn't find anything appropriate for my third-graders! All of the other map skills units (and even our social studies textbook!) were too simple, and didn't meet the new demands of the Common Core for informational text. This text will provide your students with a complex, rigorous text, but the text features and other aspects will allow your third, fourth, and fifth grade students to be successful in reading and comprehending the information. If you are teaching social studies without a textbook, you need this unit!

The unit also includes a unit test and a study guide. Answer keys are included.
