Students create a poster that will be presented to the class regarding their assigned African Region. (this could be adapted to an electronic presentation, as well--I like doing posters so that I can hang them up during the unit in my classroom).
Southern Africa, Rain Forest, Sahel, Swahili Coast, Ethiopian Highlands, Savanna, Sahara, and the African Great Lakes.
This asks students to explore the human and physical geography of their region, as well as the eco system of the region and one "eco-alert" (an issue that threatens the ecosystem of their region"
I use this in my World History Class (10th grade--it's a great way to spend more time on the African continent--which is often out of focus in eurocentric curriculum), it gives students a chance to make modern connections to the implications of colonialism and the "resource curse", as well as to explore the human populations of various regions of the African Continent.
