Need an assessment to test your students' knowledge of the differences between the New England, Mid-Atlantic and Southern regions of the thirteen colonies? This large Venn diagram includes a word bank and asks students to sort information about each region's climate, resources and economy into the correct locations. An answer key is included.
This resource aligns with the Georgia Standards of Excellence for 4th grade social studies, particularly SS4H3a: "Compare and contrast life in the New England, Mid-Atlantic, and Southern colonies."
After teaching about the three regions of the thirteen colonies, I used this Venn diagram with my students to synthesize and assess what they had learned. In my class I also had students use this graphic organizer as a springboard for writing an essay comparing and contrasting the regions of the colonies.
