This is a warm up or review lesson using the images found on first day covers (envelopes with commemorative stamp, appropriate postmark and artwork) that allows students the opportunity to use their social studies skills to collect the facts and then through the teachers guided questions discover the voting rights that were expanded in the 1960's. In 1964 was the Post Office supporting the rights coming about because of the Civil Rights Act? Was the Post Office reminding citizens, in light of the assassinations of King and Kennedy, the importance of voting? How would the 26th Amendment expand the voter base even more?
