This PowerPoint introduces regrouping or borrowing in subtraction to the tens place. Students are taken step by step through the process. This can be used to introduce regrouping for the first time or be used as a review lesson. Visuals of tens and ones are used to give a better understanding. The purpose of this PowerPoint is that the student will be able to perform regrouping in subtraction with understanding.
The PowerPoint consists of three different examples. In the first example, students are taken step by step through the process of regrouping or borrowing and pictures are used to illustrate the meaning of the minuend. In the second example, questions are used to guide the students through the process and pictures are used to illustrate the meaning of the minuend. In the third example, questions are used to guide the students through the process without using pictures. In this example, students use their imaginations to understand the meaning of the numerals in the minuend.
The preview contains the first seven slides to give you an idea of how the slides progress. You can either click through them or allow them to run automatically. The complete PowerPoint does not progress automatically so that the teacher has complete control of the pace of the PowerPoint.
