Rehearsing Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre - Part 2

Loading...
This video is one of 3 (each 8 - 10 minutes long) videos on conducting Rehearsals of Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre scripts in classrooms with students. These videos are meant to help teachers who want to increase their effectiveness in coaching students to deliver strong CBRT performances.

CBRT Rehearsals Part 1. This video commences with the beginning of the process in the classroom, once students have their speaking parts. Viewers will see how to arrange students in the room and learn a warm-up that reinforces the use of vocal expression and gestures. The students in the video are led through a seated rehearsal in which they review lines, gestures, and sound effects. Then they rehearse in their stage positions. (10 minutes long) LINK: CBRT Rehearsals Part 1

CBRT REHEARSALS PART 2. In this video, the classroom rehearsal work that began in Part 1 continues. Viewers will see a demonstration of visual cues, stopping and starting CBRT rehearsing, coaching to add gestures, soliciting student ideas, and mirroring the students’ gestures. Other aspects of the video include the leader encouraging energy in line deliveries and gestures, using repetition to reinforce the rehearsed portions of the script, coaching individual performers, encouraging the use of character voices, and rehearsing a way to give focus within the delivery of a Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script. (9 minutes, 10 seconds long)

CBRT Rehearsals Part 3. This video begins with a demonstration on how to coach students to cover for one another if someone misses a line. It concludes with a recommended process of how to involve students in reflecting on CBRT rehearsals—both compliments and critiques. (8 minutes, 21 seconds long) LINK: CBRT Rehearsals Part 3

(Please note: These videos were created with real students in real classroom rehearsal sessions, so there are occasional sections of “jumpy” film and while you can hear and understand the students most of the time, some of them are more soft-spoken than would be ideal on video.)
