Reindeer or caribou are uniquely adapted to their environment. Their coloring is ideal for camouflage; they have two layers of insulating fur, their eyes change in the winter to allow them to see better when there is less light, and the pads on their hooves shrink to provide better traction in winter. Females choose large antlered males to breed with, demonstrating Darwin’s Survival of the Fittest. Reindeer have the longest migration of any land mammal.
