The reindeer are going on vacation, but they need help to plan their route!
Your students will practice multi-digit addition skills (under 2000) as they help the reindeers plan a trip through three southern state capitals; they'll also practice the social studies skills of map reading, chart reading, learning state capitals, and a smattering of American history as they read about the places the reindeer visit!
There are 13 capital cards with the capital, state, and a description of an attraction the reindeer visited in that capital, from Medgar Evers' house to Centennial Olympic Park to the National Cowboy Museum!
Included are 3 pages of notes to the teacher, including detailed prep instructions and presentation suggestions, plus suggestions for activity extensions!
Students have an activity mat, U.S. map, map of the South with capitals, mileage chart between capital cities, recording sheet, and writing sheet (for extensions) for this center!
The last two pages of the document are links to order forms for tourist guides to each of the cities in the activity, allowing you to easily order literature for your students to extend the activity!
The activity makes use of reindeer, and a couple have Santa hats, but it does not mention Santa Claus, leaving it up to you whether to introduce them as Santa's reindeer or leave him out entirely!
