This activity would be a great idea for small group, or center work! Simply print, laminate and cut. Place the reindeers with cvc words under their correct word family heading. Once they are correctly sorted, practice reading the cvc words with your students.

You could also use this as a whole group lesson by passing out each cvc word while having the word family headers on a pocket chart. Go around the room and have students come up and place the cvc words in the correct word family. Try to come up with other words with similar endings!

Isolate and pronounce the initial, medial vowel, and final sounds (phonemes) in three-phoneme (consonant-vowel-consonant, or CVC) words. (This does not include CVCs ending with /l/, /r/, or /x/.)
Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
