These rekenreks are a math tool use to solidify number sense. They can be used when composing and decomposing quantities to 20. They are a great visual to help the kiddos see the groups of 5 in numbers and build their number fluency. They work wonders when learning the procedures for adding and subtracting.
My dry-erase rekenreks provide a great tool for formative assessments during instruction and small group work. (Plus the kids just love showing their mathematical thinking!)
Check back soon, for a guide to incorporating this manipulative as a supplement to your math instruction.
I also have a large teacher version to model this strategy to the class.
