This is beginning of the year, community building activity that I made after noticing that some of my students, and their *ahem* parents did not display a good understanding of citizenship/sportsmanship at local recreation center games. I decided to try and help the students understand that some actions were helpful to them and some actions were detrimental. This could also be a "growth mindset" type of activity. I wrote "#Squad Goals" atop a sheet of chart paper, and cut each of these statements out. Then we had a discussion about being a community of learners and what would help, and I told them I had some statements to sort.
Afterwards, we completed the last page, copied 2 sided, with pictures and labels. The analogies made were that our teacher is like the coach, our uniforms are like the sports uniforms, our classroom is like the field/court, our journal is like the playbook, our objectives are like the plays, our assignments are like practice, our classmates are like our teammates, and our test are like our games.
