This powerpoint introduces students to the idea of relations, beginning with some examples, basic definitions and terminology. Next comes an introduction/review of the ways in which functions can be represented; ordered pairs, mappings, and coordinate graphs. Following this, we examine how a two-variable equation represents a relation. Next, the concept of a function is introduced, starting with a basic definition followed by a video discussing a few examples of whether or not a given relation is a function. Finally, students are introduced to vertical line test as a way to check whether a graph represents a function.
