Product Description

Help your students express themselves more confidently and effectively!

High school students often want to convey complex thoughts in their papers, but sometimes their language skills haven’t quite caught up to their ideas. The result? Run-ons, subject-verb and pronoun disagreements, and sometimes just plain jumbled sentences.

My series of no-prep mini-grammar lessons is designed to help teenage writers understand the building blocks of English in a clear, detailed, and step-by-step manner so that they can employ more sophisticated structures in their own writing.

Topics in this lesson include:

• Use of relative pronouns (e.g., who, which, that) to form relative clauses

• Use of commas to signal non-essential clauses

• Essential (“that”) clause without commas

Real-world examples show students how the rules work in context, and challenging exercises let them apply what they’ve learned to the types of complex sentences they’d like to use in their own papers.

Rather than ask students to perform the same processes over and over again, or plug in by rote, the questions in this lesson also develop students’ critical thinking skills by testing concepts from a variety of angles.

As a bonus, these sheets also prepare students for the grammar they’ll encounter on the SAT or ACT.

Check out my other units for subject-verb agreement, pronoun agreement, comma and semicolon usage, modification, active vs. passive voice, and parallel structure.
