I was trying to figure out a way to systematically introduce relative pronouns to my students since it can be somewhat of an abstract concept (at least in their minds!). After doing lots of research, I put together this PPT to introduce the concept and used it over 5 days. I started with a review of how to form questions in Spanish, especially with prepositions, since we don't do that in English. Examples: Who are you going with (¿Con quién vas?) What are you thinking about? (¿En qué piensas). I needed to get them used to putting the preposition at the beginning of the question or clause and NOT at the end. I do have the worksheet under another listing http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Practice-with-forming-questions-in-Spanish-797811.
After this, I introduce the relative pronouns with the following PPT, which includes practice after each concept. I had the students use white boards to show me their answers and thus I could ensure that they were mastering each concept. The PPT is systematic and includes:
*A list of the relative pronouns
*Initial practice simply joining two clauses, both to activate prior learning (using QUE) and also to introduce the use of prepositions (EN QUE...)
*Practice with linking clauses (6)
*QUE vs QUIEN(ES) with 15 practice questions
*EL QUE family + 5 practice questions
*Discussion on EL CUAL and its formal use
*CUYO + 5 practice questions and a reminder about DE QUIEN
*10 summative practice questions using all of the above
*LO QUE and LO CUAL + 4 sentence translations
Note: It is all in Spanish. This should be used with upper level classes. I had great results!!
