Description

These relaxation task cards help students learn and practice strategies to help them feel more calm and relaxed while building skills for self-regulation. These strategies help with anxiety, depression, anger, and more. Some of the strategies focus on yoga techniques and postures, while others focus on visualizing, and even being a little silly. The cards would be ideal for special education teachers, regular education teachers, parents, and other support professionals working with kids and young adults who need strategies for dealing with anxiety, depression, and anger issues. Benefits of each posture are also included so you can explain to your students how it may help them.

Relaxation Strategies

Research shows that kids and young adults often need time to learn and practice relaxation strategies. They may need them modeled, too. Some of the relaxation strategies in these task cards include: tree pose, downward dog, warrior pose, chewing gum, laughing, dancing, visualizing, sky writing, journal writing, and more.

How to Use the Task Cards

- The task cards can be used in several different ways:

Introduce the task cards in a small group focused on relaxation strategies. The students in the group can be a mix of kids who actually need the strategies along with model students who can help and provide support. Students can take turns reading the cards aloud to the group, but everyone should practice.

- The cards can also be introduced in a 1:1 setting.

- Once a student has practiced the cards either in a group or 1:1 setting, he or she can keep them in a special spot in their resource room or in their binder.

- A copy of the cards can also be laminated, put on a ring and sent home. This will provide the student with a chance to practice relaxation strategies at home, too.

Four Printable Versions

Four printable versions of the same task cards are included in this set. Pages 8-15 include color task cards with directions and pictures; Pages 17-24 include black and white task cards with directions and pictures; Pages 26-29 are smaller black and white mini-cards with pictures and directions; Pages 31-34 are color mini-cards with only pictures as a visual and no words.
