This is a 15 slide, highly animated, power point presentation on Religion – The Apostles of Jesus – Matthias. Each of the slides are editable so you can modify the slides if you need to.

We find the names of the 12 apostles of Jesus the Christ in: Matthew 10:2-4, Mark 3:14-19 and Luke 6:13-16. “And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles: Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot, and Judas [also called Thaddeus or Jude] the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.” (ESV)

It is important to note that Matthias wasn't chosen by Jesus and isn't even mentioned in the synoptic gospels. Instead, he was chosen by casting lots after Jesus ascended to heaven. After being chosen, Matthias disappears completely from the New Testament canon and isn't mentioned in any other reliable historical records. The choosing of Matthias is depicted in the first chapter of Acts. Peter makes clear that the scriptures had predicted there would be a replacement for Judas. He also wanted someone who had been with the apostles during the time of the Lord's public ministry.

There are many traditions on how Matthias died. One tradition says he died of old age. Another, says he was crucified at Colchis, another says he was stoned while hanging on a cross. A tradition says that in Ethiopia the heathen dragged him over the ground, beat him, hung him from a pillar and tore his stomach with an iron blade and burned him with fire. To hide their malefaction and as an added insult, they beheaded him as an enemy of Caesar.
