"Religions of the World" contains 98 slides that include history and commentary, 8 videos, 7 classroom activities, as well as ancient and current maps to chart the origins and growth of each religion as well a where it is being practiced today. Covers Standard: 6.C.1.2 Explain how religion transformed various societies, civilizations, and regions (e.g. beliefs, practices, spread of Buddhism, Christianity, Confucianism, Hinduism, Islam, Judaism. (Shaping of societies, civilizations and regions; Spread of Islam beginning in 17th century and political, economic and social consequences; Powerful Muslim Empires of Turks, Abbasids, Seljuk, Mughals, and Ottomans. It includes a parent letter explaining the NCSS stance on religious instruction in schools and presentation may be altered/shortened by eliminating unwanted slides, videos, and classroom activities. This package was created with the "belief that religious literacy dispels stereotypes, promotes cross-cultural understanding and encourages respect for the rights of others to religious liberty" as cited by the National Council for Social Studies. It is designed to be academic, not devotional and to provide awareness, not practice.
