John McCrae, His Life and Times is an informational reading and writing unit for upper elementary students. It can be utilized equally in an ELA class or a Social Studies class and is perfect for observing Remembrance Day in Canada.
This product consists of four texts and activities to accompany each one. There are three biographical texts about John McCrae - these are continuous but do not have to be done all at once.
Each of the three texts about McCrae begin with a “before you read” question, and each one has a page of questions (inference, factual, and opinion) as well as a page of vocabulary and grammar work. Each text has a short creative writing assignment.
The fourth additional text is about Remembrance Day itself and has a slightly different format and different activities. This section is from a product that has been in my store for a while - Remembrance Day (ESL 4), one of four products for ESL students. ESL 4 was designed for high school English language learners and in the modified form here, is suitable for students who are in grades 5 and 6. Included is a page with a copy of “In Flanders Fields” with a discussion activity of 5 questions.
This product is included in a bundle of three products - Great Canadians (the two other subjects are David Suzuki and Terry Fox).
The bundle is sold at a discounted price. To see the bundle

I have dozens of biographical resources for these grade levels in my store. Many of these might be more appropriate for an American curriculum but some would be appropriate for Canadian students. Please have a look at them here:
