This set of 12 reminder cards is a great tool for communicating non-verbally with students. You can laminate these cards, so that they last longer (and do that students can't rip them up when they are upset!).
Here are some ways to use the cards:
1. To avoid arguments with argumentative or oppositional students, simply place a card on the student's desk and walk away. If the student follows the direction on the cards, come back, give the student a thumbs up or pat on the back. Later use verbal praise to let the student know you appreciate the cooperation. If the student pushes the card away or to the floor simply return later and repeat.
2. For students with ADHD or who have problems concentrating, use specific cards like the "Keep Working" card to help them re-focus on their work. this way, you cue them but you don't distract them even more.
3. Use the small, key ring size reminder cards when students are in different locations in the school or when a student can self-monitor. teachers can cue the student to use his key ring, which can have one specific card on it.
