What is the Engineering Design Process

The engineering design process takes a lot at a problem and students take a number of steps to complete a project!

Students complete a worksheet for every step in the engineering design process except the last day. This unit from a glance looks like this:

Define the Problem

On this day Students figure out what they need to know to build for the problem they are trying to pursue. We begin talking about how they will do this and what they need to know.

Plan a solution

On this day students start drawing what they will make. Giving reasoning as to why they are building a certain way.

Build a model

Students begin building a model along with coming up with a hypothesis as to why they are building their Prototype a certain way.

Testing

Students Test their prototype and collect data to find out what went well and how they can improve their model.

Reflect and Redesign

Students redesign based on data that they found on the previous day. They discuss why they want to make changes and how they will do it.

I really liked the resource and all the different ideas! The students have also loved the tasks that we have done so far. I also liked that there was a reflection page(s) built in; made it very easy to assign in Google Classroom. It would be nice if you could add how you introduce the topics to your students. Do you use videos?

Thank you so much for the feedback. I never thought of that. I do use videos and could add slides into how I introduce each unit. Thank you for the great idea!
