The document includes five (5) versions/levels of an end of the unit assessment on renewable and nonrenewable resources, including the 3 Rs.
I scaffolded the assessment in order to allow all students in my extremely diverse fifth grade class to think critically, apply knowledge learned during the unit, and synthesize information learned in familiar and new ways. In my class I had some English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students who were functioning at the first grade level, while other students where excellent communicators/writers in the gifted and talented (GT) program.
Giving all students the same version of an assessment does not serve the students best interest. It was a challenging exercise and time-consuming to create so many versions of an assessment, but it was well worth it when all students could effectively demonstrate their knowledge.
