In this engaging card sorting activity students will match repeating decimals with the fraction equivalent (or the other way around). This card sort includes 12 pairs of cards that can be matched. The more difficult pairs can be pulled form the group to aid struggling students by having fewer cards at an easier level. For more advanced students, cards can be ordered from least to greatest (or vice versa) to expand the activity to include comparing and ordering rational numbers.
Included in this packet is a student answer sheet, an answer key, decimal cards, fraction cards, and a review worksheet with answer key.
This activity directly correlates to common core standard 8.NS.A.1
Know that numbers that are not rational are called irrational. Understand informally that every number has a decimal expansion; for rational numbers show that the decimal expansion repeats eventually, and convert a decimal expansion which repeats eventually into a rational number.
