A task for Prep/Foundation/Kindergarten to develop confidence in writing, a have a go attitude and build a sense of success in young students.
After brainstorming words for things they can 'see', teachers write the words on flash cards, and up on the board for students to copy from, or if able, students can attempt spelling the words themselves.
Students write one word on each flap and illustrate the word. The sentence starter becomes a booklet students can read and demonstrate their learning, taking it home to their friends and family!
eg. I can see the dog (illustrate a dog)
I can see the slide
I can see the robot
I can see the rock.
* can be modified for lower ability students with just an illustration and teacher writes the word, to encourage simply the courage to read the sentences.
* difficulty can be increased by requiring students to rewrite the whole sentences.
