This engaging book for little learners is repetitive, interactive, and is LOADED with early word shapes and bilabial stops.


  • STORY: A repetitive story about BIG and SMALL puppies who want bones! On each page, a different puppy wants a bone. The child is able to choose a bone and give it to the puppy. The text is simple and clear and provides ample opportunities to practice a variety of goals. This story is particularly designed to work on BILABIAL STOPS (p, b).
    • The following words are featured in the story:
      • CV: My, She, Bow, Wow
      • VC: Is, Eat
      • CVC: Big, Bob, Pip, Pop, Bone, Put, Pick, Woof, Bowl, Pup
      • CVCV: Puppy, Poppy, Bobby, Happy
      • Carrier Phrases: This is ______, Gimme a _______, Eat the _______, Pick a ________.

  • BONES: 8 colourful bones that the student can take use to complete each of the 8 pages.
  • CARDS: Some ideas for how to use these cards include: treasure hunts, in sensory bins, sent home for homework, or for memory. You can use them in any way that you can imagine! Includes two sets of cards: Coloured Bones and Puppies featured in the story.
  • COLORING SHEET: Includes a black and white colouring sheet of the puppies featured in the story. This sheet can be used a reinforcer activity or to practice the words featured in the story.


VOCABULARY: Once you have read the story a few times, have the student fill in the blank on each page.

SENTENCE LENGTH: Have the student use the carrier phrase “I wanna/I want a” when choosing the bone.

EARLY WORD SHAPES: Have the student say the words in the story.

CONCEPTS: COLOR: Have the student ask for a bone, by using the color of the bone.

SIZE: Talk about the size of each pup.

REQUESTING: Have the student ask for a bone.

FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS: Have the student feed a particular bone to a particular pupy.

DESCRIBING: Have the student describe the different pup’s features (size, color, ears, tail length).
