I used this checklist for my students to use while composing reports and have updated it to align with the common core. It lists the requirements for each part of the report. Depending on the ability of your students, you can choose to have your students fill in the checklist prior to any conferences, with a peer or go through it with them during a teacher conference. There is a spot included for students to log a peer and a teacher conference.
There are two blank spots on the rubric that you can have students fill in or fill in before you copy:
1) Sections – The report includes ________ paragraphs about your topic.
2) Resources – The report includes _______ sources of information.
I left them blank so teachers could require a specific number of paragraphs or resources. Alternatively, you could have students write in how many paragraphs they wrote and how many sources they cited as they fill out the rubric.
There are 2 checklists per page to cut down on copying and paper. I also have a friendly letter checklist available in my store: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Friendly-Letter-Format-Checklist
