This lab worksheet allows students to practice identifying, naming, and drawing hydrocarbons of homologous series. My class uses MolyMods to assist in the sketching of the molecules, but if you don't have them available you can using another modeling system, or even gumdrops and toothpicks.
My labs are straightforward. Some of them are paper labs, but the ones that involve significant laboratory setup or calculations to be made on the part of the teacher are written about in a Teacher Notes section at the end of those particular labs. I use relatively safe and inexpensive chemicals. Of course, safety precautions are always noted at the beginning of the lab.
