This assignment is an excellent way to improve your students' research and writing skills. The entire packet except the grouping cards and station posters are printed into a booklet. Students then move from station to station to complete research on their assigned inspirational person: Cicero, Aesop, Duke Ellington, Albert Einstein, or Mahatma Gandhi. After completing the before, during, and after research activities, the students write an introduction paragraph using the quote from the person as a hook.
This packet includes the follow:
B&W and Color Posters and Stations (Cicero only comes in B&W)
Station Numbers Posters-The first poster is a station number poster with the famous person's name and picture for students to easily identify which group they are in after the teacher passes out the grouping cards.
Quote Posters-Has a quote, picture, and name of the inspirational person the students will be researching.
Grouping Cards-When the students enter the room, the teacher will have students select a card randomly from a container. From there, the students will move into their groups based on the person he or she picked.
Before Research Activity-Students activate prior knowledge on the subject they are researching.
During Research-Students use print, media, and online sources from the school library to answer research questions on each subject.
After Research-Students use the writing prompt to write an introduction paragraph for each quote. (The prompts are persuasive and expository.)
Citing Sources- There are two pages at the end for students to cite their sources on with MLA formatting examples.
