This is a unique research paper because it is a narrative research paper unit. Students create a fictional story and add facts to cite in the paper. Students draw or choose a European capital or major city (often this is a cross-curricular project with social studies) and that is the setting of their story. They include facts about landmarks, famous people, culture, etc. This is great for junior high and early high school or lower level older students because it reduces the chance for plagiarism and it's high interest and can focus on creative writing.
This product includes an overview of the project with clear expectations, a list of research topics for the cities, a three page study guide, a citation record document, an entire unit calendar, a deadline sheet detailing what should be due on which dates (adjustable), weekly goal sheets, a "One Week To Go" checklist, a detailed peer editing activity, a differentiated extra credit list, and a very detailed peer edit sheet based on the six traits of writing and basic editing with examples.
