As a teacher struggling to explain to my kids the importance of each step in the research paper, I find that this process helps. This product will guide the student (with the help of the teacher) through the actual research steps on a class topic. All you have to do as a teacher is borrow some sources from your friendly librarian and facilitate.
I divide the students into groups and begin by explaining what a research paper is and what each step is for. I show them the sources and show them how to look up their pertinent information in each source. I even throw in some sources that are irrelevant to the topic.I give each student the handout and then allow each group to scan through each source, decide if it is helpful information to their practice research paper, then write down the required information on the handout.
This activity prepares them for their actual research paper and allows them to glimpse each step in the process to help them understand how important each step is.
