CELL PHONES IN CLASS: This real life research project kills two birds with one stone: students will practice their research skills while working with you to decide on the rules for electronic devices in your classroom. It's a great activity and in my experience, the students are much more likely to comply with rules they have helped develop themselves!

For this project, students will:

-research the pros and cons of have e-devices in the classroom
-research issues surrounding learning styles and multi-tasking
-present their findings to the class, or in a letter to the editor, the principal or school board (they can do both, if you like)
-work together to develop class rules

Most importantly, students will see a real-life application for research as they practice all important critical thinking and collaboration skills.
