6 Powerpoint Presentations
+Referencing Homework Sheet
+Research Record (research booklet for students)
+additional pages for booklet
This research skills unit is designed to run across 5-6 lessons, though can easily be made shorter or longer. I tend to use this once or twice a year with each of my classes, but I use the Research Record for every research piece they do.
The unit introduces students to citation, referencing, plagiarism and copyright and does so in a fun and engaging way. This bundle contains PowerPoint Presentations for every lesson, along with a quiz, homework and a research record. The research record can be used for any project, from researching different food to looking at a historical figure. I am a librarian and take this unit into all subject classes, across grades 6-10, (but have also taught it with grades 4 and 5).
Students will get a chance to take part in debates over when work should be cited and when someone is plagiarising. They will explore how it feels to have your work plagiarised and will come away with handy, practical tips, including how to cite using the MLA citation style, (this can be adapted).
My teacher guide contains details for every single class, including what resources, (presentation, homework and worksheets) are needed and suggestions for adapting it to different topics, ways to differentiate and ideas for shortening or lengthening the unit.
The pack includes everything you need to teach a research skills project. This is one of my favourite units I have planned and I feel anyone can pick it up and teach with it straight away. However if you need any help to adapt it or any further explanation, please feel free to email me, as I am happy to support.
