Teach your students foundational research skills along with the various ways to cite their sources! Combined with argumentative writing, students research to answer the question of whether or not endangered owls should be protected and how (the unit can be adapted for any topic, but all examples are related to the owl theme). Lessons about the Works Cited page, in-text citations, the research process, and writing from research are in this mini-unit. All information about citing sources uses the MLA format.
Included in this package are a unit overview, four lesson plans, printable materials to go along with the lessons (stations, worksheets, note-taking pages), and answer keys for certain lessons.
To finish off the unit, students write a short argument to answer the guiding question with supporting evidence from their research, create a Works Cited page, and use in-text citations.
